Safety procedures

Our model at Cedar House already provides a safer environment than most larger preschools with our large classroom, large outdoor space, small class size (maximum of 14), and small staff who have been strictly adhering to social distancing guidelines.

We as a community have adapted to new safety precautions in our daily routines. In the Montessori classroom, teachers model these routines and practices in a way that helps children to take pride in their ability to care for themselves and others.  In the Montessori philosophy, there is already an emphasis on cleanliness and the care of self, others, and the environment that will now be brought to a new level.

The following is our list of Covid-19 safety procedures and routines (updated Feb 2021):

  • Utilize our outdoor classroom for the majority of our day including eating snack daily outdoors

  • Lunch eaten outdoors unless weather is too cold, wet, or windy for comfort

  • All children and staff wear masks except while eating

  • Health and safety agreement followed and signed by all families

  • Temperature check each day upon arrival

  • Require social distancing and masks for parents/caregivers at pick up and drop off

  • Commit to a hand washing routine at regular intervals for children and teachers

  • Sanitize materials after each day

  • Wear gloves when handling food, helping with toileting and any first-aid situations

  • Send children home who develop any symptoms and keep them isolated from the group until pick up

  • Provide children with their own set of supplies to limit sharing
